Winter Skin Care Tips
Winter skin care is one of the most important aspects of skin care health. Not only is your face usually a focal point, the face is also one of the more sensitive areas of the skin. This means you must give it the right care, especially during the winter months. Combinations of weather changes, exposure to environmental conditions such as rain, sleet, or snow, and dry indoor air all contribute to the appearance of dull, dry, tight, skin.
Winter is a great time to repair the skin after the hot summer days and sun damage. Now is the time to address pigment damage that has occurred due to sun exposure. One program we highly recommend is our 5 step Winter Peel Program, with Image Facial and Peels. A chemical peel exfoliates the top layer of skin and promotes collagen generation in the lower layer of the skin. Your Image skin care specialist will provide specific in spa treatments for your skin that directly and effectively address your specific problem areas.
Baths/Showers
Doesn’t a nice long hot bath sound good during these cold months? Think again, long exposure to water especially hot water dries out our skin. Take shorter showers and baths with tepid water. Be sure to pat dry and apply a good moisturizer after each shower.
Caffeine
It is very important to increase your water intake, to keep your skin hydrated. Increase your water consumption, with broths, juices, and natural or caffeine-free teas. Decrease your caffeine intake; caffeine is a natural diuretic that dehydrates the body and skin.
Humidifier
The gas heat we use during the winter months pulls the moisture from the air, and our skin. Placing humidifiers around the house is a great way to put moisture in the air and in your skin.
Sunscreen
Don’t be fooled by lower temperatures. Cover exposed skin with sunscreen, just as you would in the summer. No matter what time of the year the sun can still cause damage to your skin. Try our Image Prevention Sunscreen SPF 30 UVA/UVB Protection. It feels real light on the skin and does not mess up your makeup or look greasy.
